100 Palm Pre WebOS Applications Promised by Handcase

Handcase, a long time developer of software for the Palm platform, has promised that it will be coming out with 100 new applications for the new WebOS running on the new Palm Pre coming out this Saturday June 6th.

This is great news for the Palm Pre Phone as one of the biggest reasons that the iPhone is so much better than the Pre is that there are so many third-party apps that enhance the device. It has been said that Palm could compete with this because of their extensive developer network built up over the years dating back to the Palm Pilot.

Handcase has created over 300 products for Palm so far and it looks like Palm is going to allow them to be one of the few select development partners. It has been said over and over again that Palm needs to hasten the development of their relationships with programmers. The Pre will need to have some good applications churned out right away in order to compete with the hundreds of iPhone apps currently available.

Handcase claims it has been planning these 100 or so apps for over a year now. They are said to be developing applications covering all fields: corporate, medical, personal, professional, educational and entertainment. This is a great step in the right direction. Let's hope that other Palm developers have plans going on in the background to develop even more apps.
