Foursquare App for the Palm Pre Coming
July 17, 2009 0 Comments
Foursquare is a really cool social app that
uses location based services to connect you and your friends to
various locations and businesses. It was launched at SXSW and has
since gained momentum with the tech savvy. One can become a "mayor"
or earn "badges" for visiting certain locations often and then
noting them via their phone's location based service, text message,
or the Foursquare mobile site.
The service is getting so popular that bars, restaurants, and
cafe's are starting to give the "mayor's" for their business
special discounts and in some cases
FREE BEER and DRINKS! The idea is that these mayors are key
influencers and can generate a lot more business for them by
talking about their business and inviting their friends. Duh.
Of course there is an iPhone app that is quite popular and is the
main reason for the popularity of Foursquare. One can also use SMS
to give their location to the service and earn badges and
mayorships. Or one can go to the mobile site. But who want to do
those things?
So I emailed the company to ask if they had plans to develope a
WebOS app for Foursquare. And believe it or not I actually got an
answer from Dennis
Crowley, the co-founder of the company. He assured me that they
have some "folks" plugging away with the API and that a WebOS app
would be coming soon. This is great news for Palm Pre
users, its a sign that developers and companies are taking notice
and working hard to get apps out for the platform. Now if Palm
would just open up the SDK, we could all start loving our Pre's
even more!
