Just set your Pre with the included Touchstone Back Cover on the Touchstone Charging Dock, and it magnetically snaps into place and begins charging. The magnets align your phone in the correct position for charging, whether in portrait or landscape mode--no cables or connectors required to attach your phone to the dock. And it charges in the same amount of time as wall charger that came with your Palm Pre.

The Charging Dock also offers a number of handy features in addition to keeping your battery topped up:

  • Place your phone on the Charging Dock when you're on a call and its speakerphone automatically turns on.
  • Pick your phone up from the Charging Dock while you're on speakerphone and the conversation is automatically routed back to the phone.
  • For incoming phone calls, simply pick up the phone from the Charging Dock and it answers automatically, without having to tap the screen.
  • When the phone is not in use, Nightstand mode displays the time and incoming notifications.
The Charging Dock also requires the International Power Charger that came with the Palm Pre to operate.

What an upgrade!

If you can put aside the fact that this SHOULD have come as a standard accessory with the Pre, and just appreciate it for how wonderfully simple it is, then this is a no brainer. Buy one.

I bought two, one for next to my bed, and one for my desk at work, and they both work flawlessly. I had to order another Palm Pre Original Smart Phone AC USB Wall Adapter + Original Palm PRE Charging USB 2.0 Data Cable for the second Touchstone, but it was worth it.

PROS:
- NEVER AGAIN will I have to pry open that flimsy little flap to charge my Pre!
- It charges very quickly. My in-car charger has been very lonely since I made this purchase.
- I haven't had any problems getting it to magnetize. I hardly pay attention when placing my phone on the dock now. It just works.
- The new back for the phone is much better in my opinion. It has a similar feel to the Treo 755...more secure in your hand because it isn't a shiny, slippery plastic.
- I have not had any issues with "buzzing" as some have mentioned. I sleep with this thing about 2 feet from my head, and as far as I can tell it doesn't make any noise at all.

CONS:
- I use my phone as my alarm (as I'm sure many others do), and when it is docked on the Touchstone, it turns into a "clock," and is pretty bright if you are bothered by that sort of thing. I wish there was an option to make the screen go black while it's charging. My solution at night is to lay the microfiber pouch that came with the Pre over the screen, and it blocks the light very well. Perhaps a future Palm update will include that option. In the meantime, this product loses a star.

Simply put, this product works as expected. If nothing else, it gives me another reason to not pay $130/month for an iPhone.

A must have for the Pre

After receiving my new Palm Pre I was very disappointed with the charging unit and specifically the little door you are supposed to use for charging the unit. When I heard about this touchstone charger I was very excited. The cost is a little high but it is a really great device that I would recommend to anyone. Simply replace the back with the new touchstone back and you are ready to go. It is a little tricky at times to find the right placement for the Pre but with some minor practice you get it in no time. While others seem to not like this, I like that it shows the time and notifications when it is on the touchstone. Very usable and well thought out.

If you have a Palm Pre this is a must-have at a good price! Like so many others, the first Touchstone I received was defective. I would put my phone on the Touchstone and every 20 seconds or so the phone would beep. Needless to say this made the charger useless while I slept. So I filled out the return form for Amazon and they shipped me a replacement 2nd day air - and the replacement was everything I had hoped for. It's completely silent and works perfectly!! It's so much easier to charge the phone without having to open the cover for the charging port. As others have said - you must use the charging cord that came with your Pre - this DOES NOT come with a cord. But for the price here on Amazon this is TOTALLY worth it!!

Touchstone charger

After initial hic-up, the replacement TouchStone Charger is working great. No problem with charging, no annoying "the phone is charging" beeps every so often. It is just working as expected and convenient. Just flop your Pre phone onto the TouchStone charger and thats all. You do not need to snap open the charging port on the phone and put the wire in. Good product.

What could be easier then drop you phone on the charging device and pick it up when you need it? No connecting and disconnecting. Highly recommend it for all Pre users.
